Stone Mob is an American hard rock band formed in Virginia in 2017. Hailed as “rock music’s new genius,” (1) Stone Mob’s lead guitarist Blaine Kaltman has been featured in guitar magazines (2,3) and written lesson articles for his “wild yet super technical style.” (4)
Stone Mob is all about making rock music fun again. The band, consisting of members Doug “Earthdog” Masterson (lead vocals), Blaine “Shred Master General” Kaltman (guitarist, backing vocals), Eric Scott (bassist, backing vocals), and Andy Hamburger (drums), Stone Mob is a melting pot of musical veterans that came together in 2017. Since this time the Virginia-based group has made numerous strides in music and has gained a prosperous following of devotees who enjoy a traditional hard rock sound.
Stone Mob’s unique rock style derives from its multi-talented members. The group’s guitarist, Blaine Kaltman a.k.a. Shred Master General has been in Guitar World Magazine and has a huge reputation for his dizzying speed and impossible to play licks. Kaltman is also a published author and holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Singer Doug Masterson is a direct descendant of infamous gunslinger Bat Masterson. He brings to Stone Mob a wealth of life and musical experience after having established a strong reputation in Virginia Beach’s rock and metal scene. HISTORY
Formation -2017
Guitarist Blaine Kaltman was recording the soundtrack he wrote for the film Back Alley Bulls. (5) He invited his old friend Douglas Masterson to sing on some of the tracks. The two felt chemistry and, a few years later, decided to form Stone Mob. They recruited session drummer Andy Hamburger and bassist Eric Scott (of the Eric Scott Trio) and in 2017 began recording at Cue Studio in Falls Church, Virginia. (6)
2017 – Present
Stone Mob began releasing self-produced videos and performing live to critical acclaim (7). Their self-titled CD received 100/100 when reviewed by The Metal Mag who said “your ears will bleed with pleasure.” (8) Their animated video “Requiem” was called “historical” and received a 4.7/5 rating from Rating Game Music. (9)
